Jonathan Sewall was the last Attorney General
of Massachusetts before the American Revolution.
His life is the subject of a biography by Carol
Berkin. I had difficulty obtaining a copy of
Professor Berkin's book, and eventually borrowed a copy on an interlibrary
loan. It now appears that it was reprinted in 1988 and again in
